The New Zealand Breakers have completed their roster ahead of the 2022/2023 Hungry Jack’s NBL Season, securing American import Barry Brown.

The combo guard boasts experience in Europe and China, most recently averaging more than 17 points a game for the Beijing Ducks in the Chinese League.

Last season, Brown lined up for MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg in the German Bundesliga, leading the league for points per minute played. He averaged close to 13 points per game.

“Barry is exactly the player we need,” Breakers coach Mody Maor told the club’s website

“He is at the formative stage of his career; Barry can be proud of what he’s done, but he has the potential to achieve so much more.

“Barry’s decision to sign with us shows he has enormous faith in our ability to unlock his undeniable untapped potential.

“The last couple of seasons have proven that if you come to this club with the right mindset, like Will McDowell-White, Ousmane Dieng or Hugo Besson, you will become a better basketball player.”

The 191-centimetre guard was named in the Big 12 Conference First Team during his college career at Kansas State and won the Defensive Player of the Year in his his final season.

“We are in the business of maximising potential. If a 25-year-old is a finished product, then it’s an unfortunate turn of events,” Maor said.

“Barry is young, but he has the ability to impact the game in many ways.

“He is a lockdown defender and was such at college, he can score in a variety of ways and he has the knack of helping his teams win.”

Brown joins fellow imports, centre Dererk Pardon and former Utah Jazz Power Forward Jarrell Brantley on the Breakers’ roster.
