Brendan Teys Named Captain for 2017/18
Brendan Teys will captain the Adelaide 36ers for the 2017-18 NBL Season. Teys, who was part of the club's leadership group last season, will replace Mitch Creek who has stepped down from the captaincy. Creek will be travelling to the US in the next few days to train with Utah Jazz as well as playing for them in the Summer League and having a try-out for the NBA. Head Coach Joey Wright congratulated Teys on his appointment. “Brendan is someone who is widely respected among the players and plays an important role in the team,” he said. Adelaide 36ers CEO Guy Hedderwick said: “Mitch played an important leadership role for the team last season and we are delighted he will be succeeded by Brendan who has been a great servant of the 36ers and is tremendous role model and ambassador for the club." Coming into his 5th season for the club, Teys, originally from Queensland, now calls Adelaide home. In 2016-17 he averaged 5.1 points per game, 1.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists and was instrumental in guarding the best players in the league. Brendan speaking about the new appointment said “It's a huge honour for me to be named as the 36ers captain. We have such a special group of guys and to lead them in to the future is something I will cherish”. “I've been a part of the leadership group for the club over the past few seasons, so I am prepared to step in to the captaincy role”. “Being around Joey for so many years means that I know all of his expectations and the type of culture he wants at the 36ers. I intend to help build this culture and ultimately hold the trophy at the end of the season”.
