Beveridge commits to Illawarra for four years
The Illawarra Hawks have announced that Head Coach Rob Beveridge has re-signed with the club for a further four years. The announcement was made at the Illawarra Hawks MVP and Awards Night in Wollongong on Friday, and is a major coup for the club as they look to build upon their successful 2015/16 NBL campaign. Beveridge, who will be joined by his Perth-based family soon, said he was thrilled to be staying with the Hawks on a long-term basis. “I am really excited about re-signing with the Illawarra Hawks for the next four years. "We had a tremendous year and I am very proud of what we achieved. I’m really looking forward to continuing to be part of this great community and excited to have my family join me.” Beveridge, who is one of the most credentialed coaches in Australia, recently led the Hawks to 17 wins to place third on the NBL ladder. Throughout his five seasons as an NBL coach, Beveridge has never produced less than a semi-finals appearance with his team. Hawks General Manager Kim Welch said that retaining Beveridge was always a number one priority. “It was clear almost from day one that we knew we’d want Bevo for more than just one season. "His coaching credentials speak for themselves, but everything else he brings to the organisation is just as important to us," said Mr Welch. With Beveridge now locked in, the club will turn its attention to retaining the core of their playing group, particularly their ‘Big Three’ of NBL MVP Kevin Lisch, Kirk Penney and AJ Ogilvy. “We’ll immediately look to re-sign the core group, retain as many players as possible and ensure that we continue to play an up-tempo and exciting brand of basketball," said Beveridge.
