AJ Ogilvy joins the Illawarra Hawks

Incoming head coach Rob Beveridge has made his second signing for the Illawarra Hawks luring superstar big man and local NSW product AJ Ogilvy to the club on a one-year deal. Luring Ogilvy to the club is a massive boost to the Hawks, demonstrating the immediate impact new head coach Rob Beveridge has had on the club. “I have had the opportunity of coaching AJ in the past and am really excited to have the opportunity of coaching AJ again with the Hawks," said Beveridge. “AJ was the leading rebounder, leading shot blocker and All-NBL First Team star in the NBL two seasons ago, so he is going to give us a legitimate interior presence both ends of the floor." Hawks General Manager Kim Welch said securing the services of one of Australia’s premier big men is a great result for the club. “It shows we are on the right path and definitely heading in the right direction, particularly in the back office," said Welch. “We’ve had internal processes in place from the beginning and we’ve been patient and we are starting to see the reward for that. "I’m really excited on how things are shaping up both on and off the court.” Following a standout college career at Vanderbilt University, Ogilvy has played four of the last five seasons with some of Europe’s biggest clubs. The 6'11 centre lead the League in rebounds (8.7) and blocks per game (2.3) while also averaging 13.1 points and 1.9 assists per game. Shooting 57.1 per cent from the floor, Ogilvy was also in the Top 10 in free throws made shooting an impressive 76 per cent from the line. Ogilvy says he can’t wait to join head coach Rob Beveridge and the Illawarra Hawks. “I’m wrapped to be joining Bevo down at the Hawks,” said Ogilvy.acti “It’s no doubt going to be an exciting season, Bevo plays a great brand of basketball and I can’t wait to get down to the club and help the Hawks climb back up the ladder.” Ogilvy joins Rhys Martin on the Hawks roster for the upcoming season, with the club expected to make more roster announcements shortly.
