Adelaide's Own: Ingles v Newley

Adelaide’s own Joe Ingles and Brad Newley are two of the most successful basketball products to come out of South Australia, and while their friendship is well known – their striking similarities are not. Both began their professional playing careers as teenage sensations in the NBL, and went on to play three seasons each with their respective clubs. Newley played with the Townsville Crocodiles from 2004 – 2007, while Ingles joined the South Dragons from 2006. While their careers were initially out of sync (Newley is three years older than Ingles) they did manage to play two games against each other in November 2006. Remarkably, they both managed to register exactly 102 NBL games before they were lured overseas by contracts in Europe – and that’s not where the similarities end. test5

Ten years later, Newley returns to Australia as the latest Sydney Kings recruit, signing a three-year deal with the resurgent franchise.

Ingles returns as part of the Utah Jazz outfit, and will be representing the NBA at the Basketball without Borders camp in Melbourne later this month.

After competing together in the 2012 London Olympics, Ingles and Newley will be reunited next month at the Australian Boomers camp, ahead of the 2016 Games.
