Ogilvy signs three-year deal with Hawks

The Illawarra Hawks have announced AJ Ogilvy as their first player signing for the 2016/17 NBL season, re-signing the star centre for a further three years. The two-time All-NBL First Team member had a stellar first season with the Hawks, coming third in League MVP standings after averaging 16.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. The 27-year old is an integral initial addition to head coach Rob Beveridge’s new playing roster. “Obviously, I’m over the moon to have retained AJ for the next three seasons,” he said. “He's had a great year back in Australia, and he’s only going to get better. I want to help him become even more dominant on an NBL court and have him really lead our team into the future.” The Hawks are coming off a recent Finals berth, going down to the eventual 2016 Champions, the Perth Wildcats in Game Three of the semis. Far from satisfied, Beveridge said the goal is to go even further next season. “Of course we want to improve, and the challenge now is to build a team that will take us to that next level. “AJ is a great starting point to build our roster around,” he said. Ogilvy, who is currently playing in the Puerto Rican League with Atenienses de Manatí, will return to Illawarra to commence pre-season training in July. “Last season was just so much fun. We had a great team, and achieved a lot in a very short amount of time,” said Ogilvy. “I definitely want to be part of what Bevo and the club are putting together, and very happy to know I’ll be here for at least another three years.”
