General

What is the NBLMVC?

The NBLMVC is the NBL's national creator competition, spanning Australia and New Zealand. It's a chance for creators to tell their own stories, in their own format, inspired by basketball and the NBL.

What's the prize?

$100,000 to the NBLMVC Champion, and $10,000 awarded to the runner up at the end of the season. 10 x $1,000 Creator Challenge awards are also up for grabs, plus additional prizes from our monthly partners. Creators are encouraged to tune into MVC and NBL content channels to hear about prize grabs, grants and experiences which will be available throughout the campaign.

Do I need to be a basketball creator to enter?

No. NBLMVC is an open field with no restriction on niche or lens, fashion, music, art, sport, design, gaming, film and community creators are all welcome to bring their own take on the NBL.

Eligibility & Registration

Who can enter?

Any creator aged 18 or over, based in Australia or New Zealand. There's no follower threshold, everyone starts on an even playing field.

Is registration open all season, or only at launch?

Registration is open all season. Creators can join at any time between the campaign launch and the season's end.

How do I register?

Head to https://www.nbl.com.au/mvc and complete a registration form. Terms & conditions and usage rights are confirmed at the point of completion, which officially registers you for the season.

Is there a cost to enter?

No, entry is free. You just need to register and start creating.

I only heard about NBLMVC partway through the season, can I still enter?

Yes. Registration is open all season, so you can join at any point and still be eligible. Ideally, make that part of your story, address where you're jumping in as part of your content. Judging takes into account how long you've been registered, it's about the quality, creativity and consistency of what you create in that time, not the total volume compared to creators who registered on day one.

Is there a minimum number of posts I need to make?

No. There's no set minimum number of posts. What matters is a genuine, consistent body of work, how regularly you're creating, alongside the quality and creativity of what you post. Someone who registers later in the season is judged on their output relative to the time they've been in the competition, not against a fixed target.

Do I need a certain number of followers to enter, or to have a better chance of winning?

No. There's no follower threshold to enter, and follower count on its own doesn't improve your chances. Judging looks at creativity, quality, how well you're using your platform, and how you're growing and engaging your own audience, not raw follower numbers. Be sure to refer to judging criteria for more detail.

Which platforms count?

Always eligible: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok. Eligible, if backed by a tagged post on one of the above: YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, SoundCloud, Twitch. Post your long-form content wherever it lives, then support it with a tagged clip, trailer or ‘new episode is up’ post on Instagram, Facebook or TikTok. That post is what makes you findable, judging looks at the actual video, episode or stream, not just the promo clip. Not eligible: Discord, Kick, RedNote (Xiaohongshu), Snapchat. If your community lives somewhere else NBL doesn't publish to, like Pinterest or Reddit, share your content to Instagram, Facebook or TikTok and tag @NBL there for it to count.

Do I need to publish to all three eligible platforms, or is one enough?

One is enough. You don't need to be active on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, entering on a single platform is completely fine. If the same piece of content is posted across more than one platform, it counts as one entry, not multiple.

Content & Rights

What kind of content should I create?

Any NBL-inspired content, through whatever creative lens is authentically yours. Post it to Instagram, Facebook or TikTok and tag @NBL.

Do I keep ownership of my content?

Yes. Registration grants the NBL a non-exclusive licence to use your content, including reposts and collaborations, in-venue play, broadcast and weekly show use, but you retain ownership throughout.

What happens if I'm selected as the winner?

The NBLMVC Champion grants the NBL 30+ hours of filming, interviews and marketing use, and shares their win with their own followers (with content approved by the NBL beforehand).

Can I do a collab with the NBL's official channel as part of my entry?

No. Collab content, posted jointly with the NBL's official channel or another NBL partner channel, especially anything with ad spend behind it, isn't part of NBLMVC. It creates an uneven playing field for other entrants, and starts to look like a commercial partnership rather than your own entry. That said, we'll still celebrate and recognise standout contributions along the way, and your content may be reposted or shared on NBL channels under the standard content licence above.

Do creators get anything beyond the opportunity to win prize money?

Registered creators are eligible to apply for Creator Accreditation to access NBL events across the season, which are distributed subject to availability.

Judging & Selection

How are finalists chosen?

Finalists are selected on their body of work relative to the period from when the entrant registered. Judging considers: originality and strength of creative idea; consistency and quality across the period in which the entrant was registered; audience response and engagement; cultural relevance; ability to bring new audiences to the NBL; and the potential for NBL to commission, develop or scale the entrant's work. There's no minimum number of posts required, commitment and consistency are considered as part of your overall body of work, not measured against a fixed target.

Who judges the finals?

Members of the MVC judging panel will be publicly announced in due course.

Timeline

When do entries close?

Entries close at 11:59pm AEST on 15 March 2027. Content published after this time will not be eligible for judging.

When is the winner announced?

Judging will commence and the MVC Champion will be announced after the entry window has closed.
